Ballyshannon’s Peace Affected by Boy Racers

Posted online: Feb 16th, 2007

Boy racers are storming the town of Ballyshannon, a local councillor has claimed. Speaking after the monthly meeting of the local Town Council Cllr Phonsie Travers told the Donegal Post that he had witnessed cars racing each other around town and at a speed of “easily in excess of the legal speed limits” between the hours of 11.30pm and the early hours of the morning.

“This has been happening regularly over the past few weeks and is becoming another problem that this country has to face up to,” he told the paper. .

“We need to have Gardai on foot walking the streets of Ballyshannon to catch these boy racers,” he added.

Cllr Travers believes that a patrol car would be useless “as these boys have mobile phones and ring each other up as soon as they suspect Gardai are on the look out.”
