Gary and Adrian McElhinney are this week settling back
in to the old routine after their very successful participation
in the WRC Ireland.
Despite bad weather the boys were very happy with how
they and their Citroen C2R2 performed.
“We really enjoyed it and despite some heavy
rain the car performed really well in what was
really its first rally. The suspension needs
a bit of adjustment but besides that every
thing went great.” Adrian told the Donegal Post.
The boys made quite an impression over the week.
They had the honour of being the first two wheel
drive car to finish the Rally, an excellent effort
from the boys. The boys also finished first in their
class a full 11 minutes ahead of their nearest rival.
The week wasn’t without its trials however as Adrian explains.
” We did go off on stage 12, at the exact same spot as
Sordo. He left a hole in the hedge which helped minimise
our impact.”
While the boys now get back to work at AM motors,
they are already looking forward to other events on the
Rally calendar. The C2R2 Citron championship starts next
year in Ireland and the UK where the boys hope to build on
their recent success.
“That’s something we’re defiantly considering, as the moment
we’ll try to get back into the swing of things here at work. It
was a great experience, particularly the home stages in from of
friends and family. We’d also like to thank all those who kindly sponsored our efforts. The support was fantastic.”
Adrian concluded.
As we turn the corner on WRC Ireland, the Northwest
can hold its head high, not only has it proved capable
of staging a successful world event, it also proved that its drivers are more than capable of competing on the International stage.
