Bundoran Church renovations near completion
Renovation work on the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Bundoran is almost at completion, its parish priest has confirmed.
The Very Rev Fr. Ramon Munster told the Donegal Post that he hoped all aspects of the redevelopment would be finished by December 19th next, in time for Christmas.
Planning for the church’s renovations officially began around four years ago, but work officially got underway in April 2007.
And now, thanks to the revamp, the church is able to house almost double its original capacity.
Fr. Munster said he was pleased with how the work had progressed and said on the last bank holiday weekend in Bundoran almost one thousand people attended Mass inside the church.
“Last Sunday week ago, between 900 to one thousand people attended 11am Mass, which speaks for itself. This is the type of crowds that we are catering for at the church,” Fr. Munster said.
“All those people in years gone by would have had to stand out in the rain because the church only held 550 people.”
Fr. Munster added: “It’s great that this no longer has to happen, especially because it’s been pretty wet of late.”
