Hazel’s angel of luck
Rossnowlagh beauty Hazel Britton plans to wear a special charm in the Miss Universe Ireland final on Friday night – a sparkling diamante Good Luck Angel brooch which is a gift from her aunt Antoinette.
Hazel(21), who is Miss Irish Sun, competes against 19 other girls at the City West Hotel, Dublin, for the Irish title and a place in the international final in the Bahamas.
She said at the family’s Smuggler’s Creek where she works part-time as a waitress: “I’m very nervous but really excited and so looking forward to the big night. I can’t wait for it to go on.”
Hazel is 12/1 joint third favourite with the bookies to take the title. She was second-favourite but a rush of money in recent days on Dublin girl Dianna Donnelly has brought her odds tumbling down to evens favourite and prompted the other girls’ prices to drift.
A spokesperson for Boylesports bookies said: “Don’t rule Hazel out. We’ve been very impressed with her and at 12/1 she’s great value.”
Hazel will be cheered on at the event by parents Conor and Fun and some close friends as well as footballer boyfriend Eoin McHugh from Mullaghmore. He will have to dash back home on Saturday for Sligo’s Connacht championship tie with Galway on Sunday.
Hazel’s achievement in reaching the final has already brought her modelling work with top agency Assets as well as a modelling appearance on TV3.
