Barrett keeps chair

The controversy over the chairmanship of Bundoran town council was
resolved at yesterday’s monthly meeting.
Fine Gael’s Eamonn Barrett, whose election as chairman at the annual
general meeting last month was subsequently queried by Fianna Fail’s
Sean McEniff, was confirmed in the position with a new vote.
Councillors were told legal advice was there must be a new vote as the
law was breached last time when, although Mr Barrett topped the poll
of councillors, he didn’t have a majority.
The lowest of the three in the contest, Cllr Michael McMahon, should have been elected and a second vote taken.
When the matter was formally put to the meeting yesterday Cllr Barrett
was the only nomination and was formally elected without a contest.
