The remains of Mark Reynolds, whose body was recovered from the River Erne in Ballyshannon, will be removed this evening(Wed) to St Patrick’s Church in the town for a funeral Mass tomorrow and burial afterwards in the Abbey Cemetery.
Rescuers recovered the body of the 38-year-old man on Monday shortly after resuming a
search that was suspended when darkness fell on Sunday.
Mr Reynolds, from Creevy, was seen falling from the Allingham Bridge in Ballyshannon town centre into the river on Sunday night.
A Coastguard helicopter from Strandhill, Co. Sligo, as well as the Bundoran lifeboat, gardai and local people took part in the search.
Ballyshannon Fine Gael town councillor Val Murray, a friend of the dead man who had attended a relative’s celebration over the weekend, paid tribute to the memory of Mr Reynolds.
Cllr Murray said: “Everybody knew Mark. He was a happy-go-lucky guy who would work at anything and anytime you met him he would have a smile. He would do nobody any harm.
“He was in great form on Sunday. Everybody is shocked at what has happened.”
The dead man is survived by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and
a daughter in her early teens in Holland where he worked for a number of years as
a bar manager.
His mother, Molly, a founder and former manager of Creevy Coop, is involved with a number of tourism and cross-border projects.
