Weather book sales snowball!
Local weather forecaster Michael Gallagher’s latest meteorological publication has been flying off the shelves recently- and it’s all thanks to his white Christmas prediction.
The Fintown native rightly foretold of our December plight, and as a result sales of his book “Traditional Weather Signs” have rocketed.
Though, he has warned the region to brace itself for another heavy snowfall that he says is just around the corner. “The snow is not over yet,” he insisted. “There is another cold bite left, but it will not be as bad as the spell we had at Christmas.”
A postman for 42 years, Gallagher first shot into the public spotlight two years ago when he momentarily lifted the nation’s sodden spirits with his unorthodox prediction of an end to incessant summer rain.
Michael studies the behaviour of animals and plants to determine the nature of the weather. While his predictions have been disputed by Met Éireann and their scientific methods- he says between 70 and 80 per cent of his predictions come true.
“Sales of my book have gone through the roof and I have people looking for them all over Ireland, and indeed the world,” said Michael.
“A lot of local people are buying the book and sending them to friend and relatives overseas. It’s all about the traditional way of reading the weather and people are very interested in the Irish culture and the old ways.
“People who read the book say they remember their parents or grandparents telling them similar stories. When I started predictions years ago, I never thought it would go this far that I’d be on the Late Late Show!”
