It looks like Donegal boss John Joe Doherty will have to plan without Eamon McGee who is on the brink of declaring for London.

Speaking exclusively to the Donegal Post, the Gaoth Dobhair club man admits that Exiles’ boss Noel Dunning wants a definite answer in the next couple of days.

And having recently started a new job in the English capital; McGee is about to throw his lot in with London.

“In all honesty it looks like I’m going to stay about here (London),” he said. ”I’m working away, and having been sitting about for so long it would be very hard to go back to that.

“I was chatting to John Joe (Doherty) on the phone and he was very understanding about my situation. I’d love to be able to go home and play for Donegal but things are just too quiet.”

McGee though will make Dunning wait until the latest opportunity, as he clings to the slim hope of some sort of intervention from home. He returns to Donegal next week- but barring an eleventh hour reprieve- he fully expects to be part of the Exiles challenge this term.

“I haven’t completely given up hope,” he continued. “I’m coming home on Monday for a few days. But unless something comes up in the next few days I’ll have to give London an answer.

“Kevin Cassidy has been on the phone flat out asking if there has been any news. But he left it totally up to me and understood that it’s very hard to turn your back on work over here.

“I’m training away with London, and they are now looking for an answer one way or another. I told them I’m going home on Monday for a few days. And if nothing happened I’ll have to declare for them.”
