Margaret honoured in Philly
Margaret Fisher-Millar, daughter of the late William and Kathleen Fisher, Tullycleave was last week honoured in New Jersey, U.S.A. for her community work.
“Maggie” Margaret Fisher Millar was the 2010 Guest of Honour at the Giblin Association’s 56th Annual Cocktail Party for their dedicated service to the association and the community.
Maggie Millar was born in Ardara, County Donegal, Ireland, and is one of seven children raised by parents William and Kathleen Fisher. After finishing her secondary schooling, she emigrated to the United States in 1962 and settled in Brooklyn with her sister, Mary, who emigrated in 1959.
In 1969, Maggie Fisher married Peter Millar and they settled in Kearny, where they still live. In 1984, she started as a salesperson in The Irish Quality Shop. In July 2004, she moved The Irish Quality Shop to a new location on Kearny Ave after the owner Peter Murphy retired.
Millar was the Deputy Grand Marshal of the 2005 West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade. She is also a member of numerous organizations including: The Giblin Association, Belleville Irish American Assn., and Friends of Erin in Kearny
