Massive charity bike run

February 24th, 2010

A fundraising bike run will depart Donegal Town on Saturday March 13th looking to raise awareness and much needed funds for the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.

Local man Declan McGrory is putting the final touches to an event that will take in some of the most breathtaking scenery in the south west of Donegal.

“Its part of the Lord Mayor of Inver competition,” said Declan. “Every candidate has a campaign manager and I’m representing Danny Breslin. All of us are hoping to do some kind of charity event in the next couple of weeks so we’ve decided on a bike run.”

Registration for the event takes place at 9.30am sharp on the morning of the event at the Diamond Donegal Town. From there the run will travel through Killybegs, Kilcar, Carrick, Glencolmcille, Ardara, Portnoo, Fintown, Glenties and Frosses before finishing up at O’Neill’s Bar in Letterbarrow at around 5pm.

“We’re hoping to get pulled in to Ardara for a spot of lunch and we should have that sorted in the next couple of days,” he continued.

“We’ll be collecting a €20 entry fee from the bikers and we’ll have people collecting along the routes with buckets. Everyone knows what a horrible sickness Alzheimer’s is so it’s something we hope that people will throw their weight behind.

“It’s not a race and we’ll have all the proper procedures in place on the day so it’s really for anyone who likes getting out and about. We have also secured a Garda escort on the day so everything is in place for a great day.”
