Councillors ignore yellow lines
A number of county councillors are consistingly parking illegally when they attend meetings of Donegal Co. Council in Lifford, but whether the culprits are from the Donegal or Glenties Electoral area is not known.
Ten of the 29 councilors are from the south and south west of the county.
When meetings are held, it is common to see cars parked on the bend of the Diamond – despite the fact that double yellow lines are clearly visible.
And it’s not just a case of one off incidents; it’s an occurrence that has been happening for years.
The majority of councillors tend to park on a laneway almost opposite County House.
But some blatantly refuse to make the effort to find a legal parking space and park on the double yellow lines, just metres away from the council chamber.
On Monday, a truck almost got stuck as it tried to get around the bend, having to crawl as it attempted to get around the illegally parked vehicles.
“There are always councillors’ cars parked there when they have meetings, but nobody takes any notice even though it means you can’t see properly around the bend,” one local resident commented.
