There was shock and tragedy in the early hours of Sunday night in Donegal Town after a young man fell from a hotel window to the pavement below leaving him battling for his life.
The battle tragically ended for young Conor Duddy on Monday afternoon after life support machines at Letterkenny General Hospital were turned off.
The young man from Derry was one of a party of 20 Iceland employees on a ‘mystery tour’ for the night.
The group, who were not residents, had visited the Abbey Hotel earlier in the year and had returned to go socialising for a few hours before returning home by bus.
The fun trip turned horror story shortly after midnight when young Mr. Duddy fell from a third story window. Mystery still surrounds how or why the accident occurred. Gardaí are investigating and have already spoken to two witnesses.
“We are seeking any further witnesses who may have been in the area and seen anything in relation to this tragic incident,” said Inspector Brian Dalton.
The deceased was confirmed by gardaí as being 20-year-old Conor Duddy of Lecky Rd on Derry’s Bogside.
It is understood but not confirmed that an earlier attempt by Mr Duddy to gain access to the upper stories of the hotel had been averted when hotel staff stopped him from going up the main stairs. It is thought he may have reached the third floor by use of rear stairs.
Mr. Duddy is understood to have been alone at the time of the accident and the window through which he fell was opened rather than smashed.
Anyone with any further information is asked to contact investigating gardaí at Donegal Town garda station on 074 9721021.
